On 8 April, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) launched its spring session, which will end on 12 April. This session will stand out with the speech by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on 11 April. Human rights and democracy will be two of the several issues included in the agenda.

In this context, member of the Armenian delegation Naira Zohrabyan raised the issue of citizen of the Republic of Armenia Karen Ghazaryan, who has been unlawfully sentenced to 20 years in prison in Azerbaijan.

The prevention of hate speech and intolerance and the role and responsibility of political leaders in solving the issue are items on the PACE agenda. The PACE will also discuss cooperation of member states with international organizations, money-laundering, as well as social media and potential threats.

At the PACE, Pashinyan will have meetings with Secretary-General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, PACE President Liliane Maury Pasquier and President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buchichio.

Prime Minister Pashinyan will officially open the exhibition called “The Velvet Revolution in Armenia” in the vestibule of the Assembly.

Earlier, NEWS.am had reported that head of the Armenian delegation to the PACE Ruben Rubinyan had stated that it is assumed that the Prime Minister will speak about the changes having taken place in Armenia, the free and fair elections, human rights, the strengthening of freedom of speech and, in general, Armenia’s advancement.
