At the Republican People's Party meeting (Turkish: Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi or CHP), leader Deniz Baykal scarified the Turkish-Russian intergovernmental agreements signed during RF Premier Vladimir Putin’s visit to Turkey.

He stated that the South Stream project is detrimental to Turkey, making it, Azerbaijan, Middle Asian countries and entire Europe, dependent on Russian gas.

“Erdogan made that hasty step reckless of consequences of the decision. While the fraternal states — Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, are seeking to get rid of Russian control over their energy resources, we allow them to fall into Russia’s arms. But those states accepted us with enthusiasm. An intergovernmental agreement on Nabucco would enable them to get rid of Russia’s dictate, but Turkey has disappointed them once again. Was it right to sign a major agreement like the one with Russia without corresponding discussions under these circumstances? Like we see Russia is threatening Ukraine, Georgia and other countries. Why should we support it in this?” Baykal said.

He urged Turkish Government to revise the agreements on the South Stream project signed with Russia.
