On the occasion of the World Tourism Day marked on September 27, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan presented awards to a number of representatives of Armenia’s tourist industry. From this year, Armenia will mark the World Tourism Day.

The Armenian Premier, as well as the RA Ministry of Economy, awarded diplomas and gold medals to the ceremony diplomas and gold medals. Premier Sargsyan pointed out the necessity for diversification in the country’s tourist industry. “The cooperation between the Government and private sector is of high importance. The number of tourist visitors to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic should be increased. The Government will help tour operators to work out affordable package tours for tourists visiting both Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh,” Sargsyan said.

The Armenian Premier also pointed out that the first package tour, Yerevan-Garni, does not yet meet the international standards.

Although the RA Ministry of Economy reports an increase in the number of tourists even mid the crisis, the Premier pointed out that most of the tourist visitors to Armenia are representatives of the Armenian Diaspora, which cannot be regarded as classic tourism.
