There were military operations in April 2016, and we decide to call them a war or not. This is what President of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Arayik Haroutyunyan told reporters today, touching upon the question whether the Armenian side won or lost the war in April 2016.

“I can’t say whether we won or lost. We can state that even though Azerbaijan succeeded in seizing some military posts, the army failed to meet the objective that had been set forth. Yes, the Azerbaijanis seized positions. Yes, the positions were strategic since all the positions are strategic. We know that it’s not that easy for Azerbaijan to succeed by purchasing weapons worth billions of dollars for decades and making pompous statements, but as far as winning or losing is concerned, I must say that the Armenian side lost military posts and suffered casualties, and Azerbaijan suffered casualties and managed to seize some positions.”
