UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria Adam Abdelmula gave an exclusive interview to the UN News Agency on the rapidly changing security and humanitarian situation in the country, as well as the bombing of Syria by Israeli forces.

He said that while the UN and its assets may not have been directly targeted by Israeli air raids, “they have the unintended consequence of preventing us from conducting normal humanitarian operations for fear of simply being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

“In addition, they create a climate of fear among the population,” Abdelmoula said.

“Some of these air raids have killed innocent civilians in the past, and I have issued statements in the past emphasizing the need for (the Israeli military) to avoid civilian casualties and reminding them of their obligations under international humanitarian law,” the UN official added.
