World Cup chief Hassan Al-Thawadi said that between 400 and 500 migrant workers have died preparing for World Cup 2022.

“The estimate is around 400, between 400 and 500.

“I don’t have the exact number, that’s something that’s been discussed. One death is too many, it’s as simple as that.”

Qatar has been repeatedly criticized for the human rights situation and conditions for migrant workers during the construction of stadiums for the tournament.

The World Cup began Nov. 20 and runs through Dec. 18, 2022. The tournament takes place in eight stadiums in five cities. The final match will take place at the National Stadium.
